When Apple® released System 7.5, it didn’t take users long to discover the trick to open a cute easter egg hidden within the System! A Breakout like game displaying all the people that were responsible for Apple’s latest Operating System. All one had to do was type “secret about box” into any Drag Manager aware program (SimpleText, Stickies and the NotePad DA to name a few) and drag the text to the Desktop!
In less then a year, Apple released an update to 7.5 that removed that wonderful easter egg! Dragging “secret about box” to the desktop simply placed a small Text Clipping on the desktop. No longer could office workers while away the hours playing Breakout while the boss thought they were working.
Now, Apple has released a new System Update, but didn’t give our game back! Well, after a little research I’ve discovered Apple didn’t actually remove the Easter Egg. They just removed the code for opening it!
This is the reason behind this little DA! All Secret About Box does, is trigger the easter egg! Double-clicking this program, or selecting it from the Apple Menu will immediately start the game. Clicking the mouse will quit it. All of this in less then 2K of drive space!
